34

candles on my cake today! Well, I had a milkshake, not cake.
 Mint chocolate mocha.
Candles wouldn't have fit in the cup, and they would have sunk.
 Candles are over rated.
Anyway. I have THE BEST HUSBAND IN THE WORLD.
 This is very, highly true.
I woke up this morning, and came out to the kitchen. He wished me happy birthday in his boxers. This is strange, because at precisely  8:54 a.m, he should not be in his boxers in the kitchen doing dishes ( L.O.V.E)
He should be at work. In my groggyness, I was trying to remember if yesterday was friday.
I could not figure it out. So I asked.
 Why are you still here?
He said that he took the day off because it was my birthday!
And he asked if I wanted to go to UCONN at Storrs to poke around like I have been wanting to!
I
Love
you.
So we wrapped up a few things  and hit the road!
UCONN is the University of Connecticut at Storrs. They have green houses, dairy animals, Morgan horses, an archeology museum.
And a kick ass ice cream joint dubbed "the dairy bar" where they make ice cream, and stuff from their own cows.
We had such a great day together. I think that was the operative word.
 Together.
 All of us.
 On a Wednesday.
Anyway, here we go:
We decided to walk through the campus to the dairy area. It was a longish walk, but it was cool because there were all these hip college kids milling about. Not so much in this picture.
It was funny to be the only parents with young kids running around.
We checked out lots of cows.
We ate our fill of ice cream.
Checked out the green houses.
Look at these giant fiddleheads.
You know those plants that produce a REALLY stinky blossom like every three years?
This greenhouse lady here, says that this is the stem of one in the unstinky stage.
Right on.
All E wanted to do was pick the oranges.
He kept sneaking back there.
We had THE most fun poking at the venus fly traps.
This is one of those dewy sticky plants,
that trap bugs with it's pretty glue. Like this,
It was super sparkly in the sunlight.
I have a thing for carnivorous plants, so hang tight.
These were wicked tall pitcher plants.
And ones that hung low.
These were my favorite.
So sparkly!
more pitchers,
more poking.
Onto the archeology museum. I think this is only bear we will see this summer.
I think my dogs are bear patrolling the property well. sigh.
K really digs archeology, and he had a long look at arrowheads.
I would love to find one with him someday.
Bugs!
My beloved luna moth.
I WILL find one. I WILL...
We headed back out to see the cows again.
and hiked around the horse unit.
I did not get a good picture of the horses as they had their faces stuffed into their food buckets.
But what a wicked cool tree!
My birthday was awesome, thank you guys. Incidentally, it was the first day of school in our town. I am so glad to have decided to live and learn this way.
AND, as if it could get any better, ghost hunters is having a back to back marathon tonight.
For me.
And Umm.. M as well.-K

Sunday ( photo dump)

Well this weekend, a lot of cleaning happened. A and I teamed up and whipped this mess into shape.
We cleaned up the "Hawaii bathroom" to showcase the arrival of our new Whimsi photo, that I was lucky enough to win.
Here, I will give you a very small tour of the kids bathroom.
This is how it looks from the hallway.
We bought some photos from our last trip to Hawaii,
in K-Mart of all places!
Yes, this one has  broken glass.
I'll take care of it on my next trip to Michael's.
 K's old baby room fish.
Well, there is lot's of fish in Hawaii.
 The grass skirt shower curtain.
Bath mat.
soap dish.
Pretty Hawaiian, right?
Look how perfectly seamless the picture fits in.
I LOVE it! Thank you so much , Evie.
So We took a break from the frenzied cleaning, and we walked to the diner for lunch.
After we ate, we decided to go to the field and try to fly some kites.
There was a bit of a breeze, seemed perfect.
Well, our kites were dysfunctional,
and we could not get them to take flight.
 E ran over M's kite,
and she ran away in tears.
This was all turning into a big pile of..
But kids are funny, and tying a streamer from your broken kite to your finger brings much joy.
And kite fighting brings manic glee.
Well, for a little while.
It was decided that a trip to the ice cream joint would bring us peace and serenity.
Sort of.
We played,
 and rode things.
 And we journeyed home
past the flowers,
 and gourds.
Down our very own driveway with specks of orchids,
and gazing pools.
We strided next to our magical woodlands,
directly to our most favorite resting spot.
Then the weirdness in us came out again,
 as usual.
And there was a giant mud puddle,
again.
M and I started back in on our cleaning.
She loves projects, and organizing and being included.
She emptied the closet from hell. All by herself.
 Egads!
Ah, much better!
And so that was our Sunday.
Clean, sweaty, sweet, dirty, and clean again.-K
